Announcement

Studies in pedagogy demonstrate the effectiveness of active and hands-on learning as an efficient alternative to passive large classes. The learning groups are formed with six to ten students in a class and they perform assignments in the classrooms that are easily reconfigurable to support a variety of instructional approaches. Typically, in these classrooms, students work in groups of six to ten, with the faculty member and two/ three tutors present to provide guidance and encouragement to about 10 to 15 groups. In this setting, learning becomes a pleasure and the new paradigm is known as Flipped Learning or Education 3.0. There are subtle differences in each strategy; however, all of them aim at engaging students in self-study and to supplement a significant part of formal lectures with project-based learning and/or problem-based learning. Group work is an essential part of this new way of learning and classes are to be designed to engage students in learning from each other as much as possible. Such teaching-learning processes, if implemented properly, are expected to produce graduates with higher-order thinking skills. IIT Guwahati desires to promote such project-based and problem-based learning methods to improve problem solving skills and creativity in graduates. Already some faculty members are trying flipped classroom enthusiastically. The pictures show flipped classes conducted by the Instructor of CE-301 (Hydraulics and Hydraulic Structures) .
