Location

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is located just on the outskirts of the city of Guwahati and is well connected to other parts of the country by road, rail or air.

There are direct air services from/to Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata with connectivity to all major cities in the country and direct train services from/to all the metropolis and other major cities. Air India, Jet Airways, Vistara, IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir operate regular flights to and from Guwahati.

It is around 20 km from the heart of the city and around 40 min drive from the airport. To reach the institute from the city, there is an Institute bus service that runs regularly to and from the city.

Commuting to the Institute from the city

For commuting from the station to the IIT Guwahati campus, private cabs, tata sumos and auto-rickshaws are available. Our Campus is also within UBER and OLA services. IIT Guwahati has also its own transporation facilities to ply to and fro from the campus to the city.

Flights to Guwahati

There are direct flights from/to Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata with connectivity to all major cities in the country.  Air India, Jet Airways,, AirAsia, Spicejet, Indigo, Go Air operate regular flights to and from Guwahati. Getting to the IITG from the airport (which may take around 40 minutes) will cost around Rs.500 in a pre-paid taxi available in the airport.

Taxis are available for transport within the city but are without meters and fares have to be negotiated and the same applies to auto-rickshaws. There is also an extensive network of city bus service. UBER and OLA services are also available.
