Ph. D. program:

Ph. D. program is started in the department since August 1996 both in experimental as well as theoretical physics. Students in this program are trained through rigorous course work covering basic as well as advanced level courses before starting their research work. The major research areas in the department are Condensed Matter Physics (Theory and Experiment), Lasers and Photonics, Theoretical Physics, High Energy Physics and Astrophysics. At present, the strength of research scholars is about 80 and the number is increasing.

Admission to Ph.D program

The admission advertisement usually appears twice in a year, in April/May and September/October of each year in newspapers as well as institute web page. For more information related to the Ph.D program please visit institute webpage on Ph.D matters.

Admission Test / Interview:

The selection test is usually held in July/December every year. For appearing in the Ph.D. interview, TA will be paid for sleeper class railway journey by the shortest route from the communication address to the institute and return.
  • To oversee the conduct of all postgraduate courses of the department.

  • To ensure academic standard and excellence of the courses offered by the department.

  • To discuss and recommend the syllabi of all the postgraduate courses offered by department from time to time before sending the same to the Institute Postgraduate Programme Committee (IPPC).

  • To consider any matter related to the postgraduate programme of the department.
