About Inter-IIT Sports Meet

About

The institute has clubs for every sport, and you’ve at your disposable rad company - whether you’re a pro baller and are looking to make a mark in institute basketball, or like to hit it hard like the tennis and squash squad; are gentle but fierce like the table tennis playing junta, who by the way, get us a good number of laurels at the inters, or are swift with long lasting stamina and are always in deep water, in which case we predict you’d get along well with the swimmers of the institute. We’re going to be having a facility for skating, very soon. Weightlifting? Already do. In your first semester, you’ll have the option to fill in what your sports activity, called ‘SA’ on campus, will be for the year. Mind you, the number of students that can take up a particular sport is limited, and you need to be quick to fill in your options if you want a sport of your choice. A 75% attendance is necessary to pass this course, whose classes are held after academic hours, and if you fail to pass this course, you might not be eligible for a branch change and most certainly will be out of the race for the institute gold medal.
IITG, being one of the old and top IITs has incontestably one of the best sports facilities amongst all other IITs.
Throughout the year, The Sports Board organizes various activities which are carried out with utmost enthusiasm. These include:
1) Annual Sports Festival, Spirit.
2) Inter-Hostel Sports competition, Spardha.
3) Cross Country Races on Independence Day and Republic Day.
Hostels have been developing their own sports culture with basic facilities like chess, carom, cricket, football, volleyball, table tennis played in almost every hostel in addition to basketball, hockey sticks and mini-gym. And the competitive spirit is seen as every year the competition in Inter-Hostel Sports Competition, Spardha, becomes even more intense.

This is but a mere description. There's a lot in store to unlock.

The Inter-IIT Sports Meet

The Inter-IIT Sports Meet, the "Inter-IIT" in causal lingo, is the annual sports competition of the IITs, held over seven days every December, for every sport but aquatics. The Inter IIT Aquatics meet is held in October. Last year's edition at IIT Kanpur was the 51st edition of the event, comprising of 23 IIT contingents for 15 events, making it the largest so far.
From Athletics and Aquatics, to Volleyball and Weightlifting, nearly every sport of note gets its own event, and with it, a thronging of frenzied fans. For the participants who have trained year-long, the Inter-IIT represents an exhibition of physical prowess and a shot at bringing glory to one's college. A chance to witness record-breaking athleticism and indomitable team spirit at its peak, the Inter-IIT Sports Meet dispels any notions that the IITs are all work, and no play.
