The
office of the Outreach Education Programme (OEP) facilitates Indian
Institute of Technology Guwahati's (IITG) networking with institutions,
universities, academic bodies, professional associations and schools
within India. It facilitates cooperation, collaboration and confluence
of education programmes, academic collaborations, scientific and
technology mentoring and sharing of knowhow.
The Outreach office has special focus on North East India.
IITG aspires to participate with and contribute towards educational,
industrial and collaborative development activities in the north east
region of India having geographically international borders with
neighbouring countries. IITG operates through the office of OEP to reach
out to all the seven sister states of north east India and Sikkim
sharing its academic, research and social engineering innovation
resources with both Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTI) and
private sector institutions.
In
alignment with its vision statement, IITG aspires through its outreach
programme to build working relationships with the institutions in India
including other IITs, CFTIs, educational institutions, industry and
government professional societies and bodies.
Operations of the Outreach Office
- Initiating
academic collaborations and interactions with government organisations,
scientific bodies, public sector undertakings and industry.
- National internship programmes for students of other Institutions in India under GOI schemes.
- Visiting faculty and student exchange short duration programmes under MOUs with other educational institutions.
- Flagship national programmes such as Ishan Vikas.
- Science
popularisation programmes for schools, colleges, institutions in the
North Eastern states of India - (a) Conducted at IITG, and (b) Organized
at school/college/university.
- Outreach activities such as interactions, educational group visits to departments and centres in IITG.
- Community engineering and social innovation programmes with educational component in the North East.
Mentoring and Collaborations with Institutions
The
outreach office interacts and supports new institutes and universities
in India through MoUs wishing to work together with IITG. These outreach
activities cover student exchange, faculty exchange, infrastructure
know how transfer, expert assessments, facilitating Faculty members to
register for PhD programme at IITG that are especially located in the
North East which comprises of the following eight states: Arunachal
Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura.
