MoU
The
Outreach Office facilitites signing of MoUs by IITG with educational
institutes and organisations of the country with added focus on
Northeast India. Besides educational organisations, a few MoUs have been
signed with organisations engaged in research based works focused on
social upliftment and nation-building.
Focus North East
IITG
aspires to participate with and contribute towards Educational,
Industrial and Collaborative development activities in the North East
region of India. IITG operates through the offices of the Dean OEP to
reach-out to all the seven sister states of North East India and Sikkim
so as to be able to share its academic, research and social engineering
innovation expertise.
Sciences and Technology Popularisation Programmes
IITG
hosts a large number of Student Science association who are involved in
conducting Science popularisation programmes in the North Eastern
states. The Dean - Outreach facilitates and supports activities of these
bodies who travel deep into the region and conduct workshops, lectures,
and demonstrations right at the door step of local schools, colleges
and universities.
Navodaya Regional Science Congress
The Regional Science Congress, of all the 83 Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs) in the North-East of India has been conducted from 2nd to 7th
December, 2018 at IIT Guwahati. About 160 students participated in the
event, which was attended by the Assistant Commissioner, NVS along with
30 Principals and several teachers participated and co-organised the
event. The programme included special lectures by the eminent faculty
from different departments - Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths,
Computer Science, Design, Nanoscience and Energy. Visits were conducted
to research labs providing students with lab sessions, hands on
exercises and experimental demonstrations.
NCERT - NTS Awardees Nurturance
Programme has been organized from 9th December to 13th
December 2019. National Talent Search Awardees from all over the
country attended a five-day programme addressed by Faculty of IITG. The
programme included creativity sessions, visits and Lectures.
Science, Maths and Technology Shows/Camps/Workshops
The
outreach office organises and conducts regional science congress and
science technology camps regularly, upon requests for national level
Schools such as Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jwahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and NCERT -
National Science Talent training programmes on its campuses at
Guwahati. So far over 2000 students have attended these residential
events along with their teachers. Participants get to experience life at
an IIT including its hostels, classroom and laboratories besides
interacting with subject experts. Programme durations ranges from one to
two weeks and is normally conducted during the beginning of winter
vacations in December.
Ishan Vikas Programme
ISHAN VIKAS
is an outreach programme coordinated by IIT Guwahati for school and
engineering college students from the North Eastern states. The aim of
the programme is to introduce students from NE states to high quality
academia across the country and thus overview on the career
opportunities for higher studies. The programme began with the
initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2014.
From
the winter of 2014 until the winter of 2017, 1743 school children (987
Boys and 756 Girls) from more than 170 schools have visited 24
institutes of higher education across India for a maximum period of 15
days. These institutes of higher education comprise of 15 IITs, 5
IISERs, 3 NITs and NIAS, Bangalore. In addition, 378 engineering college
students (266 Boys and 112 Girls) in their final year were placed for
summer internships in various institutions of higher education. These
internships provided the students with experience and mentorship from
renowned scholars across the country. Ishan Vikas programme has been
popular and successful and IITG looks forward to its continuation.
NEDFi
A
team of experts from IITG conducted project evaluation of recently
completed studies under Techno Economic Development Fund, assessment of
science curriculum in schools in North East, benchmarking with schools
in Maharashtra, submission of final report to North Eastern Council. The
Outreach office, IIT Guwahati collaborated with NEDFI (North Eastern
Development Finance Corporation Ltd.) to ascertain the standard of
science education, the deficiencies of the curriculum, its ramification
on the academic scenario and the scope for improvement therein. A
concrete strategy to work towards the goal is currently being finalized.
FICE Intel IITG School Project
An
MoU was signed between Outreach Education Program, Indian Institute of
Technology Guwahati and Foundation for Innovation and Collaborative
Education (FICE) to conduct a three month programme to bridge the
innovation gap between leading urban schools and schools that cater to
the not so privileged. Institute received grant of Rs. 250,000.00
(Rupees Two Lakh Fifty Thousand Only) to implement the project. Six High
Schools located in Guwahati, Nalbari are covered.

Coordination of student activities at Uttarakhand, Dimapur, brainstorming sessions at Delhi.
Outreach Internship Programme for J&K Students in Collaboration with AICTE
Outreach
Internship programme for J&K Students in collaboration with AICTE
for undergraduate students from colleges of J&K for a duration of
four weeks with partial financial support.
Internship Programmes for Engineering College Students of Assam
Internship
opportunities are provided to Students from Assam based institutions to
undergo internships in the Departments and Centers. At any given time,
there are over 20 students undergoing these internships.
SAMEER
Providing
support and hand holding in all administrative matters, aiding in
collaborative research of the Society for Applied Microwave Electronics
Engineering & Research - Ministry of Electronics and Information
Technology - GOI SAMEER is located in the IITG Campus
North East Institutions Conclave
The first Conclave of Heads of North East Institutions, CFTIs and Central Universities took place on 17th and 18th
February 2020. Heads of institutes and faculty members from Northeast
CFTIs and NITs attended the conclave during which Heads of IITG's
departments and centres presented areas of potential cooperation. Four
MoUs were signed.
Kendriya Vidyalaya, IITG
Dean,
OEP, is the nominee chairperson on behalf of the Director of the IITG,
Kendriya Vidyalaya Management Committee which looks after the governance
of the school. Besides infrastructure, IITG supports the KV school
located within its campus, in all its education and sports activities.
Educational Group Tour and Visits of Schools/College Students to IITG Campus
- Students
from around 65 schools and colleges of the North Eastern states, West
Bengal, Odisha, etc., have visited IIT Guwahati since October 2016. Each
group size varies from a minimum of 15 students to a maximum of 100
plus.
- We
welcome schools and Institutions intending to visit our departments and
Laboratories in groups and interact with Faculty, Staff and
Researchers. Since we have limited visiting time slots in a semester a
minimum of 4 weeks of prior intimation is required to process a request.
- No hostel accommodation on campus is available at IITG during ongoing semesters.
- Hostel accommodation is extended to participants of officially organised outreach programmes by IITG.
