Unmute Toolkit Launch event

Launch of the UnMute Toolkit. The UnMute Toolkit is an open-source collection of tools, methodologies, and pipelines tailored to speakers of un-written, minority languages. The event brought together interdisciplinary researchers, NGOs, industrial partners, and minority language speakers.

International Mother Language Day

International Mother Language Day celebrated at IIT Guwahati organized by Centre for Linguistic Science and Technology. Dr. Kuladhar Saikia, President, Assam Sahitya Sabha, was the Chief Guest of the event. Prof. T. G. Sitharam, Director IITG delivered the welcome address. Prof. Rohit Sinha spoke about the Technology Intervention in Mother Language promotion. Also, the researchers of IIT Guwahati made short presentations highlighting their research on 16 different Mother Languages.

WiSSAP 2018 (Signal Processing for Speech and Hearing Disorders)

WiSSAP - Winter School on Speech and Audio Processing provides a forum for students, researchers and professionals to enhance their background and get exposed to intricate research areas in the field of speech and audio signal processing. The schools constitute of a theme topic and tutorials surrounding it. WiSSAP 2018, scheduled between 19th and 22nd January, 2018, at the Center for Linguistic Science and Technology, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, is the thirteenth in the series following the very successful earlier twelve winter schools.​

School on Automatic Speech Recognition

A "School on Automatic Speech Recognition" was conducted by CLST. The school was attended by about 20 Ph.D. scholars from North-East India, about 20 scholars from other parts of India as well as Bhutan, in addition to about a dozen scholars from IITG. The tutorial lectures in the mornings were followed by practical sessions in the afternoons. In addition, there were expert lectures and demonstrations of speech systems in the evenings. Every participant individually implemented Marathi language ASR system using spoken and written language resources made available to them. They​ implemented ASR systems for ​some languages in addition to ​preparing linguistic resources in their own languages: Adi, Ao, Assamese, Bangla, Dzongkha, Galo, Hindi, Kannada, Khasi, Malayalam, Marathi, Meitei, Odia and Telugu.

National Symposium on Cognitive Science

The aim of the symposium is to inform and encourage students and young researchers about the field and its various research domains . Cognitive science is an essentially interdisciplinary area of research and depends heavily on collaborative efforts among experts from various disciplines. Leading researchers from the field will deliver talks on some key areas of empirical research. We aim not only to spread knowledge about the field but also to start a fruitful dialogue among the relevant departments and interested parties in various institutes in India , especially NE for future research and help them contribute to the steady growth of Cognitive Science in India. India’s North East, with its rich and diverse cultural landscape, is a fertile ground for new and adventurous research ideas. Areas like language and cognition, cognitive disorders, bilingualism, artificial intelligence, emotion and cognition, child cognition, autism, can be explored.

The 22nd Himalayan Languages Symposium

The 22nd Himalayan Languages Symposium will be organized jointly by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Center for Linguistic Science and Technology, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati from June 8 to June 10, 2016. The Himalayan Languages Symposium is a multidisciplinary conference that covers a broad range of topics of the Himalayan languages. As mentioned in the official website of Himalayan Languages Symposium contributions are welcome on any language of the greater Himalayan region, e.g. Burushaski, Kusunda, Tibeto-Burman, Indo-Iranian, Austroasiatic, Kradai, Andamanese, Nahali, Dravidian or any other language of the area. Contributions are also invited from related disciplines such as history, anthropology, archaeology and prehistory focusing on the greater Himalayan region.
