About Us

At IIT Guwahati, Institute believe that true excellence in education and research can only be achieved in an environment that values inclusivity, equality, and diversity. As an Institute of National Importance, our vibrant community of faculty, students, and staff represents a wide spectrum of regional, linguistic, social, economic, and cultural backgrounds. Institute also welcome individuals with disabilities and special abilities, while progressively enhancing international diversity on campus.

The Office for Inclusive Diversity (OID) is a central body dedicated to sustaining and nurturing this inclusive environment. The office is to work collaboratively with academic and administrative units to ensure that every member of the IIT Guwahati community feels respected, supported, and empowered to achieve their full potential.

To realize this vision through proactive initiatives in education, capacity building, research, and facilitation of resources and tools.

Objectives

  • Awareness & Sensitization: Organizing workshops, training, and discussions to promote understanding of caste, gender, race, sexuality, and other diversity-related issues.
  • Enhancing Campus Diversity: Creating programs to attract underrepresented groups and increase international student participation.
  • Learning Support: Assisting students from marginalized communities and persons with disabilities through academic, pedagogical, and technological support.
  • Grievance Redressal: Providing safe platforms and guidance for addressing issues of discrimination, inclusion, and gender equity.
  • Language Support: Offering Hindi training and other language programs to help students, especially international students, integrate better into campus life.
  • Accessibility Improvement: Ensuring campus infrastructure and facilities are inclusive and accessible to all.
  • Zero Discrimination: Actively addressing and eliminating all forms of discrimination across the institute.

Collaborative Efforts

The OID works in close coordination with:

  • Dean (Faculty Affairs): To support new faculty onboarding and integration.
  • Dean (Academic & Student Affairs): To aid student adaptation and success.
  • Dean (Alumni & External Relations): To strengthen international student engagement.
  • Official Language Cell: To meet the language support needs of students.
