The Master of Business Administration (MBA) at IIT Guwahati is a two-year (four semesters) residential programme. The programme, which is holistic in nature, comprises of classroom teaching, case studies, projects and internship in the industry. The goal
of the programme is to provide an overall well-rounded learning experience for the students. The specific thrust of the programme would be to impart training to enable the connect between the technical experts and corporate
leadership, who make business decisions. The ability to understand both the technical and business sides of the equation has a great impact on making decisions towards creating invaluable asset for a corporation in a highly competitive
and ever evolving marketplace.
The MBA degree is expected to augment the analytical expertise, by providing a keen understanding of the fundamentals of business, such as economics, accounting, finance, organisational development and strategic development. The MBA programme will not only have required courses, but also provide students with plethora of focused electives from other academic. The programme also gives enough flexibility to the students to gain expertise in selected areas of general management and applied management areas through extensive project works.

The flagship programme of the School is the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) which will encompass the nuances of a traditional MBA programme, in conjunction with a plethora of electives from various areas of business, including design management, finance, human resources management and marketing. The School will also have a Ph.D. programme with the goal of creating the academic and professional leaders of tomorrow, both in teaching and research. The programme will strive to be a preferred destination for individuals seeking to achieve their intellectual potential and conducting cutting edge research. The School, in the near future, will commence a Minor programme in Business for the B.Tech. majors, offering opportunities for development of techno-entrepreneurial outlook and vision. IIT Guwahati being the nodal centre for learning in the north-eastern region, the establishment of this School will go a long way in lending support to skill development and empowerment of entrepreneurs of the region, especially small and women entrepreneurs.
Finally, we seek to create an ecosystem, where learners from diverse background can strive and acquire expertise in business management skills, while also creating an opportunity for our skilled manpower to translate their ideas into tangible business solutions. The School of Business at IIT Guwahati is one of the academic units of the Institute that has been established with the objective of creating next generation of business decision makers advancing the spirit of creativity, sustainability, and self-reliance by leveraging the eco-system of research, teaching, consultancy and industry-academia collaborations within IIT Guwahati.
The School of Business has drawn inspiration from the reputation of IIT Guwahati as a place of innovation, technology and intense entrepreneurial activities that sprout from the traditional departments and unique schools of IITG. Advancing this passion,
the MBA programme at the School of Business is being structured to provide the students with focused electives from other academic fields such as Data Analytics, Energy Economics, Infrastructure Planning and
Management, Product Design, Modelling and Simulation, Design Management, and Infrastructure Finance, besides the strong emphasis being given to the industry-relevant curriculum in the current data-centric business environment.
The School of Business draws faculty members from other allied departments and schools of IIT Guwahati besides the faculty members representing the various functional areas of management. This provides the opportunity to pursue research in applied areas

Providing a techno-entrepreneurial ecosystem as part of the multi-disciplinary education is the need of the hour, and the MBA programme at the School of Business, is an initiative in this direction.
The MBA programme being offered at School of Business has nuances of regular MBA programme along with a plethora of focused electives from other academic fields, including design management, infrastructure finance, human resources and marketing.
Provision of such an avenue will result in creating an ecosystem where students with different background can equip themselves with business management expertise and expand their skill sets. This will, in fact, create an opportunity for the highly skilled manpower to transform their skills into business principles. Finally, the mantra of the School is to create job-creators, instead of being job-seekers.
The MBA programme being offered at School of Business is a two-year programme. The first year of the programme will cover a gamut of topics in the broader area of Management Science. The second year of the programme is more holistic and includes electives from several verticals and extensive project work under the supervisor of the School faculty members. In addition, there an intervening summer internship between the first and the second year.
Tentative schedule for admission to 2022-2023 session of the MBA programme:
- Commencement of online applications: Date after the announcement of CAT 2021 results.
- Application Submission Extended till: February 11, 2022 (5 pm)
- Shortlisting of applications for the Personal Interview (PI): Third Week of March 2022
- Dates for Personal Interview: 23rd to 26th March 2022
- List of Selected Candidates: Tentatively by First Week of May 2022.
The prospective candidates applying to the MBA Programme at the School of Business at IIT Guwahati must satisfy the following criteria:
- A valid score in the Common Admissions Test (CAT).
- A Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree with at least 60% marks or a minimum CPI or CGPA of 6.0 out of 10.
For SC/ST/PwD candidates, a relaxation of 5% in marks (i.e., minimum 55%) or equivalent in CGPA (i.e., minimum 5.50 on a 10-point scale) is permissible.

- Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree from the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.
- Applicants in the final year of their graduation are also eligible to apply. If selected, their admission will be provisional and is subject to them fulfilling the required eligibility criteria by October of that academic year.
Reservations as per the Government of India rules will be followed.
The selection of candidates to the MBA programme at School of Business at IIT Guwahati will be open to those applicants who have qualified the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by IIMs every year.
The prospective candidates have to apply for the MBA programme to the School of Business separately and IIMs do not have any role in selection of candidates to the MBA programme by the School of Business.
The selection process for the MBA programme comprises of two stages – Stage I and Stage II. In Stage I, the eligible candidates as per the eligibility criteria mentioned below will be shortlisted for Personal Interview
from amongst the candidates who have applied to the MBA programme. The composite score for shortlisting the candidates will be based on the following parameter:

The School of Business, IIT Guwahati, will be offering the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programme commencing in July 2022 (Academic Year 2022-23).
A general, as well as a sectional cut-off will be applicable for the July 2022 admissions to the MBA programme.
The MBA programme is general and have common courses in the first year. The second year will have the option of taking specialized/domain courses. In addition, there will be project work in both the semesters of the second year to give greater opportunity of research experience.

Professor Tripathi received his doctorate in Social Psychology from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. Currently Prof. Tripathi is working as a Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, where he teaches
courses in the areas of Organizational Behaviour (OB) and Human Resource Management (HRM). He has over 25 years of teaching and research experience. Prof. Tripathi started his academic career with Management Training and
Consultancy Organization, Centre for Organization Development, Hyderabad, and then shifted to Business School to teach students of MBA programme. Since 1998, he has been with the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati
teaching courses in the areas of OB, HRM, and Social Psychology to B.Tech, and Ph.D. students.
Prof. Tripathi has supervised seven Ph.D. students on different topics in OB and HR, including topics like Influence Strategies, Strategic HRM, Organizational Learning and Knowledge Management, Stress, Empowering Leadership, Diversity and Creativity. His students have gone to secure academic positions in the country's leading management institutions, including IIMs. Prof. Tripathi has also supervised several Masters dissertations, apart from co-supervising B.Tech. and M.Tech. dissertations, which have resulted in publications.
Prof. Tripathi has published extensively in high ranking journals, such as Management Research Review, Employee Responsibilities and Rights Journal, Journal of Advances in Management Research, VINE Journal of Information and Knowledge Management, Journal of Indian Business Research, Frontiers in Psychology, Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology to name a few. He has also presented his work in various academic conferences, such as Academy of International Business, American Psychological Association Convention, European Psychological Conference, International Congress of Psychology, and International Congress of Applied Psychology.
Prof. Tripathi held the prestigious Burns Endowment Fellowship at the Dhillon School of Business, University of Lethbridge, AB, Canada, in 2015.

Siddhartha Pratim Chakrabarty is a Professor in the area of finance. His research interest and expertise includes portfolio theory, financial risk management, sustainable finance and computational finance. His research focus is on quantitative methods

Rajshree Bedamatta is Professor of Economics & Development Studies at the Department of Humanities & Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. She joined IIT Guwahati in 2010 and is involved in undergraduate and post graduate teaching, research, and sponsored projects and consultancies. She is additionally an Associate Faculty at the Centre for Disaster Management and Research and the School of Business, IIT Guwahati. Her academic training is in the field of Development Economics. Her research interests are at the intersection of Development Economics and its socio-political correlates, including but not limited to, agriculture and rural development, rural labour markets, health workforce and health equity, food security, and the political economy of digital technologies in the implementation of welfare programmes in India. Prior to joining IIT Guwahati, she worked briefly as Senior Lecturer at the School of Rural Management, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar and as Post-Doctoral Researcher, Foundation for Agrarian Studies, Kolkata (currently in Bengaluru). Sukhomay Pal is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Associate Faculty in the School of Business, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India. He obtained his Ph.D. Degree from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur, India, in the area of welding process monitoring using machining learning. Prior to joining IIT Guwahati, he worked as a post-doctoral research fellow at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Deepak Sharma is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India. Prakash Kotecha is an Associate Professor at School of Business. He works in the area of Operations Research.
