Corporates, Philanthropists, or Alumni may join hands with IIT Guwahati in furthering the contributions to research and development activities on socially relevant issues by donating to the Institute in various forms. The following are some of the options for sponsoring the research of faculty members or motivating the students to contribute to society by giving awards.
A donor may donate a one-time endowment for instituting awards/grants or pay annually for the respective grants/awards. In consultation with the Institute, the donor can suggest a suitable name for the awards/grants to be established.
Professor Chair
The Chair Professorship at IIT Guwahati is given to distinguished faculty members for their contributions to academics, research, and development. Such faculty members shall play a significant role in R&D activities on society-relevant problems and facilitate deeper interaction between the industry and the Institute.
A donor can establish an endowed Chair on areas mutually decided by the donor and IIT Guwahati. A donor may sponsor a permanent endowed Chair or a Chair for a specific duration.
Following the Institute’s regulations, an eligible faculty member shall be appointed against the Chair. A Professor in the relevant area/disciplines of IIT Guwahati who is bestowed with the Chair will be paid an appropriate Top Up salary for this additional assignment. A Chair can also be filled up by invitation on contract.
Awards
A donor can institute an award/medal/fellowship to recognize the achievements of the faculty members and students of the Institute and to encourage them for further contributions. The award can be established in a specific discipline or for specific contributions. In the case of students, the award can be for those meritorious in a specific branch, or programme, etc.
Research grant
A donor can establish a research grant to promote research on a specific area as mutually decided by the donor and the institute. The donor may determine the number of grants as well as the grant amount.
