OpenROAD for Low-cost ASIC Design for Rapid Innovation

About the Workshop

The objective of this workshop is to train the participants with VLSI design backend flow through the open-source VLSI design tool “OpenROAD”. After successful completion of this workshop, the participants would be able to run the RTL synthesis to GDS-2 flow for their own design.

The six-day workshop is scheduled from Jan 08-13, 2024 to introduce and launch the first OpenROAD based education and skills development event and as a forerunner to future OpenROAD based VLSI courses. It will be offered in a hybrid format consisting of online and offline lectures with hands-on labs to focus on practical learning and skills development. Students will attend from all over India, with a special focus on rural education, expected to number in thousands.

What is OPENROAD

OpenROAD is a non-profit project funded by DARPA and sponsored by Google that creates low-cost and innovative Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and flows for IC design. Through open source and native innovation, OpenROAD aim to democratize IC design, break down barriers of access and reduce schedule risk. An OpenROAD flow provides fast ASIC design exploration, QoR estimation and physical implementation for a variety of technologies above 12 nm using an autonomous, no-human-in-the-loop, 24-hour RTL-GDSII flow. The goal is dedicated to a diverse community of designers, researchers, enthusiasts, software engineers and entrepreneurs to make a significant impact through the use and contribution of OpenROAD. With a rapidly growing and diverse user community, OpenROAD has been used on more than 600 tapeouts across a range of ASIC applications.
