Vimal Kr. Yadav

I served as CEF of RSF EEE 2017-18 team which was in charge from June 2017 to April 2018. I really feel highly privileged to lead such an enthusiastic team of sincere and active executive members. With the strength of our team, we could organize 26 events in total which included technical talks, seminars from external speakers, workshops, sports events, movie screening, teachers day, Ph.D. farewell and freshers with launching the first version of Research Scholar's Day (RSD 2018) in EEE department. In RSD 2018, we organized various events like invited talk from design department, open mind session with one of our senior professors of our EEE department, panel discussion on various aspects related to post-doc and jobs after Ph.D. We also awarded Model Researcher Award and Budding Researcher Award in EEE department to encourage the spirit of doing best research. Probably, this was the first time in an Indian institution that an award of such kind was presented. Personally, I learnt a lot how to manage time, develop an effective team spirit and a cooperative working culture as a team during the course of organizing all those events. Also, to document each meeting of RSF EEE in minutes of meeting along with Anirban gave a strong practice to sharpen the writing skill which is an indispensable part of a Ph.D. life and which is often neglected by majority of us to finally meet the same as an pertinent obstacle in terms of our publication and paper acceptances. I want to write at length but the pressure of research is asking me to cut this short at this moment. So, wishing all the best to the new RSF EEE 2018-19 team, I sign off here.

It was a wonderful journey. I enjoyed a lot working with RSF-EEE 2017-18 team. This was because each of the members developed awesome mutual understanding and always encouraged each other’s efforts and ideas. Things became so much smooth and free-flowing because everybody was ready to take any responsibility given during any small or big event. Brainstorming, pitching and executions of new ideas are the virtue of people working in this team. I still remember many a time this question came "How is it this even possible to do it in such a short span of time?" but we did things smartly. Over the year we have organized many talks, sports events, workshops and interactive sessions. And by seeing the attendees’ response, I can guess the fruitfulness of these events for Research scholars. I also want to thank each and everyone who contributed to RSF-EEE Newsletter directly or indirectly and my best wishes are always with the new RSF-EEE team. Looking forward to seeing some exciting and successful events.

It was a great pleasure to be the part of the energetic, enthusiastic and cohesive team of RSF-EEE. The one thing that I liked the most about the team is that though RSF-EEE follows a hierarchical organisational structure, but all of the members are given freedom and individuality to put forward their ideas, thoughts and plans to deliver a successful event. Together we organised many lectures, talks, competitions and the Research Scholar’s Day (RSD 2018). I would like to thank all the members of the team for their efforts to revive RSFEEE and help in establishing the familiarity among the research scholars of the EEE department.

Anirban Bhowal

I was the treasurer of RSF-EEE team for 2017-18. During my tenure I learnt many intricate things besides finance also. I would like to thank my team mates, faculty advisor and HOD-EEE for their support and guidance. When I came into this team, my aim was to create a strong bonding between research scholars and take them out of their monotonous lives, and I think I have been successful to a certain extent. As a team we extended our activities to different facets like movie screening, technical talks and workshops, sports, freshers and farewell events etc. Another new initiative 'Quarterly newsletter' was launched by our editorial team. I would like to thank Rahul for considering me as a part of this team. I learnt many things like how to organize and edit articles, make cover pages, print hard copies etc. While editing articles and collecting information about the various sections, I personally gathered knowledge and interacted with different people.
It was also fun to gather in the fields and organize various sport events. Participation and organization simultaneously took a toll on me, but I would like to thank all volunteers and other team members who helped me to conduct all such events smoothly. Regarding photography and video editing, I had the least knowledge but thanks to our photographers and editors, Manoranjan and Darpan, I gained valuable insight into this aspect too. Webpage update was also an aspect which attracted me the most and I learnt many basic concepts regarding webpages from our web managers, Pralay and Satyajit. I still remember the nights when I burnt the midnight oil to design posters, Tshirts and certificates for various events in absence of my team mates. This also helped me in learning the designing aspect along with Deepak. Refreshments played a key factor in attracting people to different events. From seeking funds to arranging it along with Debajit, serving refreshments was also instrumental in our success. In this regard, I would like to thank Debajit for providing me with endless trips to Dibang on his scooty. The events needed an anchor, and Vineeta in true sense was an "anchor". Without her gracious presence, the events would not have been successful. 3MT competition was launched by our team in IITG for the first time and we conducted it for external students also in RC 2018. It was a successful event which was appreciated by one and all. The Research Scholars Day 2018 was an event which encompassed various types of events and also allowed research scholars to showcase their talents. It was the inaugural version and we hope that our successor would continue this trend and make this event a much bigger one. All these events required the help of volunteers, and I would like to thank them all for their time and effort.
During this journey I faced many criticism and discouragement from my departmental colleagues. But I tried my best to find the faintest ray of hope within me to carry on my work and motivate others. Some also helped me during my difficult times, which made me stronger. I would like to thank my friends, seniors and juniors- Kaushik, Atanu, Shubh Lakshmi, Shikha, Parth, Mohit, Bikash for their help and support at various points of my tenure. Finally, how can I forget two renowned persons, without whom this would not have been possible. They are our DPPC- Vivek (fondly called as Don) and our CEF- Vimal. They were there as my guides at all points of my tenure. I still remember Vivek giving his valuable time before his APS for conducting badminton tournament. He was always available whenever I needed him. I fondly remember those long walks to various departments for inviting judges for 3MT during RC 18. Our CEF was also a leader, and I would like to thank him for taking the initiative to collect funds for treatment of our office staff. He was always ready to perform whatever work was beneficial for our team. The trust and faith he had in me also inspired me to strive harder for my team.
I hope I have been able to take my team to greater heights. Now our RSF-EEE is known across various departments and I hope that our successors would keep up our good work. I would like to thank all those who contributed in different forms for the betterment of our forum. Hope my successor Darpan takes the team to the next level with his vision and leadership.

It is my immense pleasure to share my experience as a Placement Co-ordinator in RSF-EEE (2017-18) team in this 4th edition of the newsletter. I can proudly say that we as a team have successfully revived (if I may say so) RSF-EEE after its inception in 2015 and being inactive for nearly 2 years. After organizing 26 events in a period of nearly one year, the tenure of the current team is over and though I am a part of the new team as Treasurer, the experiences gained during the past one year cannot be expressed in few words. Though we had our ups and downs in some decision makings, I feel it was necessary as a healthy conversation would go a long way in solving issues. Whether the events organized by RSF-EEE was productive or not, you, the readers have to decide; all I can say is that all the members had worked very hard for these events which ultimately would not have been successful without your active participation. If you are reading this newsletter, I hope that you are doing so because somehow, in some way, whether in your academic career or your personal life, RSF-EEE has helped you. I have learned two important things during the past year as an executive member of RSF-EEE. First is about team-work and unity. You can work hard in something only if you believe in it. Nothing is impossible when you work as a team. I have had the pleasure of working with a very active and wonderful team. Second is about the experiences you have gained in the past, whether good or bad. What matters most, in my opinion, to lead a successful life is to use the past experiences you have gained to move forward. Last but not the least; I would like to thank all of you for your kind support and I urge all of you to give your valuable feedback and constructive criticism so that the new team can perform even better.

Debajit Sarma

First of all thanks a lot for giving me this opportunity to talk about my experience as Event Manager in RSF for the tenure 2017-18. I can only say that it was one of my best experiences in IITG to work with such an enthusiastic team. We all together managed to arrange some very good events including workshops, lectures from inside as well as outside people, games, RSD etc etc. And, for all this the credit definitely goes to all the members of the team. We've all been a part of this group and we all are proud of that. As we all know, in any group one person takes the lead, leading some other members to include their ideas, there was no exception to our case also. I therefore, specifically, would like to mention the contribution of Vimalji and Anirban to make everything happen. I would also like to mention the contribution of Vivek as DPPC student representative as well as a good wisher of the forum. I would also like to thank all those people who have helped us in every step of the walk. Lastly, I would like to quote a line of Henry Ford- "Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success."

Manoranjan Minz

It has been a roller coaster ride for the whole RSF-EEE team so far. Held more than 30 meetings and organised 26 events in a single academic year of 2017-2018, this level of activeness, I doubt, you would ever see in a club, community or forum of the entire IIT Guwahati campus. Everyone contributed their individual best and took the team to new heights. I feel myself very fortunate to be a part of this energetic and talented team. Like every other team we weren't perfect, we had our fair share of arguments, agreements, disagreements, but we anyhow managed to conduct each event victoriously. In the process of all these, we learnt a lot of things about management, problem solving, personal growth and developed our own set of skills which will be beneficial for us in the upcoming years. I would like to express my appreciation and thanks to each and every person associated with the RSF-EEE team, be it directly or indirectly, for helping us make our endeavours successful and joyful. I will be continuing as the Creative Head of the team in 2018-19 as well. I hope the new team will continue this legacy and will obtain even greater achievements.

Vivek Venugopal

It has been an absolute pleasure and privilege to have been associated with this dynamic and enthusiastic bunch of RSF-EEE executives 2017-18. I feel proud when other DPPC representatives tell me that EEE department has the most active Research Scholar Forum across the institute. The entire team deserve a pat on the back for the relentless workrate, team work and for the recognition that they have brought along with it. The only grievance I may probably have is that it has been a short and sweet stay from them. I wish the outgoing executives the very best for their future endeavours and hope that the new executive team can keep the ball rolling.

Deepak Agrawal

It was a nice experience to work In Research Scholar Forum. I learned a lot of things like how to organise events (talks, workshop and games) and how to make coordination among team members. If someone wants to go fast, he should go alone but if someone wants to go far then he should go with team. I like the lines of Dr. Kalam about a leader that a leader takes the responsibility of failure and gives the credit of success to his team.

Pralay Chakrabarty

It has been a great pleasure working with a team like RSF EEE, 2017-2018 and I appreciate having had this wonderful opportunity to work with you all. When we started our tenure last year, RSF-EEE was alien to the students of our department itself. Honestly, I never thought RSF EEE would become that big but now at least people know that there exists something called "RSF-EEE". So cheers to all the days, Cheers to us. You are a special group of people and I will definitely miss the team.

Satyajit Bora

The one year journey of RSF EEE 2017-18 team is coming to its end. I feel proud to be a part of it. I really enjoyed and learned a lot with this team. All of these experiences will no doubt be valuable as we go forward in life. I would like to thank all the readers of the newsletter and hopefully, people will love and appreciate the fourth edition also. I would like to thank all the team members who were constantly pushing me whenever I got lazy. I am also sorry to you all for my unknown mistakes. I hope, the next team will take RSF EEE to the next level.
