Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MMTTP):Objective

The Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme (MMTTP) is a Government of India initiative under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, implemented through the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centres (MMTTCs). It is designed to strengthen the professional capacity of faculty and academic staff in higher education by providing continuous opportunities for professional development, updating knowledge and skills, improving teaching-learning practices, and encouraging innovation in higher education. The programme supports the development of motivated, capable and reflective teachers who can contribute effectively to teaching, research, academic leadership and institutional development.
MMTTP offers a range of capacity-building activities, including NEP Orientation and Sensitization Programmes, Guru-Dakshta Faculty Induction Programmes, Refresher Courses, Short-Term Programmes/Faculty Development Programmes, Academic Leadership Programmes and specialised capacity-building initiatives. These programmes address areas such as pedagogy and assessment, research methodology, digital and ICT-enabled teaching, Indian Knowledge Systems, multidisciplinary education, entrepreneurship, sustainability, inclusive education, student wellbeing and academic leadership. Through structured training, expert interaction, collaborative learning and practical engagement, the programme helps faculty members adopt contemporary and context-responsive approaches to teaching and academic work.
The key benefit of MMTTP is the strengthening of the higher-education ecosystem through continuous professional development of teachers. It enables faculty members to enhance classroom effectiveness, integrate technology into learning, develop critical and multidisciplinary thinking, improve research and innovation capabilities, understand emerging educational practices, and contribute to inclusive, ethical and sustainable institutions. By building professional competence and encouraging lifelong learning, MMTTP aims to support quality teaching, better learning outcomes and stronger institutional and societal development. IIT Guwahati is among the institutions listed by the UGC as a Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre and can serve as a platform for such capacity-building initiatives in the region.
