Ph.D. Thesis

Read the guidelines for B.Tech and M.Tech students, this applies to you also. Some of the possible Ph.D. topics that I wish to guide on are as follows:

  • Ab-initio based inelastic collision cross-section model and rotational-translational relaxation

  • Non-equilibrium Radiative Heat Transfer in high temperature gas flows

  • High temperature gas dynamics using discontinuous Galerkin method

  • Molecular Dynamics based models for Thermal and Chemical Ablation

  • Hybrid DSMC-DG code for studying plume flows

M.Tech Projects

My M. Tech topics require good proficiency in C++/fortran and mathematics. No issues if you are not familiar with the topics but it is expected good amount of work on the student's part with utmost sincerity. Please send you CFD Grades and Assignments when you contact me.

Mainly my research has three directions: - Conventional Gas Dynamics: Please search hypersonic solvers on google and go through a few (review) papers on this. - Direct Simulation Monte Carlo: Search DSMC and re-entry vehicles. DSMC is a particle method. - Non-equilibrium Air Radiation Modelling: Search NEQAIR - Second order Gas dynamics equations: Search generalized hydrodynamics (papers by Byung Chan Eu) or NCCR (papers by Rho Shin Myong). This is more theoretical work. Instead of Navier-Stokes-Fourier relations, one has to work with second-order approximations of stress and heat flux.

One important thing, if you are going to write GATE or planning to appear for UPSC, please look for other guides. In addition to this, you will have to develop soft skills (LaTeX and git) for MTP-1 and also self-study a couple of subjects. Some topics that I am floating in for the next set of students:

  • Implementation of slip-temperature jump models in unstructured compressible flow solver

  • Development of OpenFOAM based NCCR solver for multi-species flows

  • Validation and verification of photon-Monte Carlo code

B. Tech Projects

I am not offering any BTP topics this year (2023). If you still want to independently (not in groups of 2) work on a research project with me, please meet me after your 5th semester.
