SOURADEEP DEY

PRIME MINISTER'S RESEARCH FELLOW

BIOMATERIALS AND TISSUE ENGINEERING LABORATORY

CENTRE FOR NANOTECHNOLOGY

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, GUWAHATI

Souradeep Dey is a Ph.D. scholar in the Centre for Nanotechnology at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, currently working under the supervision of Prof. Biman B. Mandal (Professor, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati). Souradeep received his Bachelor's degree in Zoology from University of Calcutta, West Bengal in 2016 and Master's degree in Biotechnology from Vellore Institute of Technology, Tamil Nadu in 2018. During his Master's, he was introduced to the field of Tissue Engineering, for which he developed a keen fascination and intended to pursue it further. He proceeded to gather some hands-on experience in the basic theoretical and practical aspects pertaining to the domain during this period.

Further, to broaden his experience and strengthen his skills, he enrolled as a project trainee under Prof. Mandal's guidance at IIT Guwahati for his Master's dissertation on "Design and fabrication of 3D-printed biomimetic construct to recapitulate form and function of intervertebral disc". The overall experience gained here led him to take up a dedicated full-time research culminating in enrolling himself for Ph.D. at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati under Prof. Biman B. Mandal. He is a recipient of the prestigious Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF), which is conferred as a token of encouragement to the country's most outstanding research scholars for pursing their research.

Gaining motivation from schemes like ‘Make in India’, ‘Swasth Bharat’, “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and ‘Innovation India’ missions (as conceived by the Government of India), they at IIT Guwahati are aiming towards developing ‘Fast and Affordable 3D Printed Biomedical Implants as Healthcare products and High Throughput Drug Screening Platforms’ using inexpensive and patient specific biomaterials for improving the current clinical scenario.
