Nayan

A project to design a system that serve as the eyes of the visually challenged. In our project Nayan, we propose the design of a robot that helps visually challenged in finding their path in indoor locations as well as outdoor locations. Nayan uses Legos NXT kit to serve as a mobile robot. A webcam and a GPS Receiver are also attached to this mobile robot. A thread is attached to the robot and its other end is in the hands of the user. While moving outdoors, using a remote one can enter the destination by pressing a button corresponding to the destination and then based on the readings of the GPS Receiver, Robot is directed towards the destination avoiding the obstacles in path with help of camera. While working indoor, we assume some strips are laid along the path used and then using sensors attached to Robot, it is able to follow the strip with the help of camera detecting diversions in the path.

The project idea was also submitted in the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2010 in 'Accessibility for Local Innovation Award' category by these three students with the team name as 'Three blind mice'. It won the consolation prize in this category. ( ALIA results )

Mobile Agent based Multi-Robot Architecture

A framework for biologically inspired intelligent mobile agents assisting their hardware counterparts i.e. the robots. It is intended to show how a set of mobile agents can aid robots to learn to move around almost from scratch. Robots have only their innate skills initially but eventually learn from other such robots situated in similar environments through mobile agents and their clones. The modelling is based on a hybrid of the two well known AIS paradigms - Clonal Selection and the Idiotypic (Jerne's) network.

A Dynamic Functional Model for Emotion Generation

According to neurobiological research findings, emotions are helpful part of consciousness that is able to boost up or diminish the enthusiasm to do an act. Emotion involves feelings(joy, sorrow, fear etc.), sensibility(responsiveness towards something). Emotional Intelligence(EI) describes the ability, aptitude(know-how) that influences the success according to environment. EI model is the self - mechanism to apply the emotional intelligence toward troubles of the environment(or assignment), EI model organize the perception & manage the emotions. Consequently we propose a Dynamic functional model that affects the artificial intelligence of the robot and provide the sophistication to do the assignment, through emotions. It helps to create human like perception in the machine.
