Database Of Therapeutic plants against Tuberculosis is a manually curated database of Indian medicinal plants which have traditional use in the treatment of tuberculosis. According to the World Health Organization, 65 to 70% of rural population in India is dependent on medicinal plants or traditional medicine for their primary health care needs. There are many folk medicinal practices or local health traditions which are utilized by indigenous communities and tribes of India for curing tuberculosis. However, these practices are uncodified and undocumented and mostly passed down by the practicing ancestors to the future generations via verbal channels. Verbal transfer of information can lead to the loss or eradication of the expertise and customs pertaining to the usage of the plants. Therefore, it is imperative to conserve this indigenous knowledge for future therapeutic and public health purposes.

The current database consists of 100 medicinal plants which are being utilized by various indigenous tribes of India for TB therapeutics. The database provides the following information: scientific name of plant, local name, taxonomical classification, the part of the plant used as cure, the form it is being administered, the tribe using it and the current scientific data of the plant with respect to its antimycobacterial activity.

These plants are utilized frequently by local tribes for therapeutic purposes.Assembling them into a single platform will be highly beneficial as it will preserve the traditional knowledge as well as aid the researchers in availing themselves of information related to TB and traditional medicine in an easy and effortless manner. The data would be helpful towards drug discovery and drug development against tuberculosis.
