Sanchari Kar

Architect/ Habitat Design

“Architecture is the learned game, correct and magnificent, of forms assembled in the light.”

From 'Towards a New Architecture' by Le Corbusier

Sanchari Kar is an architecture graduate with a strong interest in the intersection of design, culture, and temporality. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (B.Arch), and a Master’s degree (M.Arch) in Habitat Design, through which she developed a foundation in sustainable design, material systems, and contextual architectural practices. Following her Bachelor’s and Master’s, Sanchari has worked at various Universities as a faculty and also worked as a consultant architect based in Odisha and Assam.

Her academic journey has been shaped by a deep engagement with ephemeral architecture, inspired by the dynamic and temporary built environments of India. She explores how these transient structures embody resourcefulness, cultural expression, and sustainable practices.

Her research focuses on themes of circularity, frugal innovation, and context-responsive design, with a particular emphasis on how traditional knowledge systems can inform future architectural frameworks. Sanchari is especially interested in developing design strategies that are environmentally adaptive, materially efficient, and culturally rooted.

Currently, Sanchari is pursuing her PhD under Dr. Mriganka Madhukailya at IIT Guwahati.
