About IIT Guwahati

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic programme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995. At present the Institute has eleven departments and five inter-disciplinary academic centres covering all the major engineering, science and humanities disciplines, offering BTech, BDes, MA, MDes, MTech, MSc and PhD programmes. Department of Design

The Department of Design (DoD), one of the thirteen departments at IIT Guwahati, was set up with a vision to enkindle some of the brightest technical minds of the country a passion for innovation in technology driven by a firm understanding, appreciation and celebration of design.The department offers a B.Des., M.Des. and a Ph.D. program in Design. The focus of the program is on the study, invention, and creative use of technologies to create effective, usable, enjoyable experiences with technology through interdisciplinary research in engineering, design, behavioral and social sciences, and to understand the impact of technology on individuals, groups, and organizations. About TEQIP

TEQIP conceived in pursuance of the NPE-1986 (revised in 1992) by Govt of India as a long term program to be implemented in different phases. After successful execution of TEQIP II, TEQIP III starts from 2017-18 as Central Sector Scheme with a focus on the Low Income States, Northeast, Hill States and Islands. The third phase of TEQIP is also special in a way that it incorporates twinning arrangements between mentee & mentor institutions with an emphasis on Focused Training (PT) and Focused Interventions from IITs in terms of deliverables and accountability. KIT, established at IIT Guwahati under 2nd phase of TEQIP is a focal point for training Faculty, Staff and students from TEQIP-III institutions in Knowledge Engineering, Content Creation, Improving Teaching, Pedagogy & administrative skills in identified niche areas/disciplines.

KIT (Knowledge Incubation Cell for TEQIP) at IIT Guwahati functions as a multidisciplinary as well as interdisciplinary Innovation Incubation Centre with a focus to impart Knowledge, infusing innovation and leading a path to achieve academic excellence. Its activities are in the area of improving quality of technical education, incubator of Innovative Ideas; implementer of contemporary pedagogy practices and development of Learning Content in Technical institutions while mentoring them.

Centre for Ergonomics

Ergonomics laboratory at Department of Design, IIT Guwahati was set-up in 1999 under leadership Prof. Debkumar Chakrabarti. This is a well-equipped laboratory with various basic and applied research facilities for both physical and cognitive ergonomics. Apart from equipment for traditional ergonomics evaluation, modern sophisticated equipment are available for virtual ergonomics evaluation and cognitive workload study.
With the intention of extending facilities available in Ergonomics Laboratory, Department of Design and disseminate expertise possessed by the associated members (faculties, staffs, research scholars and project assistances), a Centre of Excellence was proposed as ‘Center for Ergonomics: User centered Design and Occupational Wellbeing’ which was approved by BoG, IIT Guwahati.Read More
