In today’s rapidly advancing world of science and technology, computational tools have become an essential part of learning, research, and innovation. Among these tools, Python has emerged as a powerful and versatile programming language because of its simplicity, flexibility, and wide range of applications in scientific computing, data analysis, visualization, and experimental research. Keeping in mind the growing importance of computational skills in modern science and engineering, the SPIE IIT Guwahati Student Chapter is organizing a Python Workshop to introduce students to the fundamentals of Python and demonstrate its applications in optics and photonics.

The workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to learn Python from the basics and explore how programming can be connected with real scientific problems. The sessions will cover Introductory Python, followed by the visualization of the polarization of light on the Poincaré Sphere using Python, and an application-oriented session on Arduino–Python-based optical signal processing and communication. Through these sessions, participants will gain both foundational programming knowledge and an understanding of how Python can be used as a practical tool for visualization, data processing, experimental control, and communication in optical systems. The workshop is intended to provide an interactive and enriching learning experience, encouraging students to explore the intersection of programming, optics, and photonics.
