About Dr. Shrikrishna N. Joshi

  • Dr. Joshi is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, India. His research interests include micro, nano, and precision manufacturing processes with a focus on applications of lasers in manufacturing, thin-wall machining, single point diamond turning, CAD/CAM, and manufacturing automation. His research addresses both the basic as well as applied problems pertaining to these manufacturing processes. Dr. Joshi’s research group also works on the development of intelligent machine tools and CAD/CAM systems. He has developed a Massive Open Online Course on “Automation in Manufacturing” and a web course on “Mechatronics and Manufacturing Automation” as part of the Government of India’s flagship project National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL).

Research Overview

  • Advanced Manufacturing Processes

    Our research activities are primarily focused on modeling of various manufacturing processes viz. laser bending; laser micro-machining; thin-wall machining; single point diamond turning. Physics based models are being developed using analytical as well as numerical techniques (FEM). Moreover we also carry out experimental study on these processes. Our objective is to understand the physics of the processes using numerical modeling and to develop accurate predictive models which will help to improve the productivity of the process.
