Objective

There have been many advances in RF & Photonics in the last decades. Some of the new advancements are metametarials, terahertz, nanoantennas, etc. Some researchers across the globe are trying to narrow down the gap between RF and Photonics and treat these two separate research areas into one. This course is targeted at discussing the fundamentals and advances in RF and Photonics. The course would cover topics related to antennas, microwaves, RF circuits, optical fibers, optical sources and detectors photonics integrated circuits, numerical electromagnetics, etc.

Today’s world is becoming wireless prominently. There are billions of wireless users around the world. The wireless devices are usually made of RF/microwave devices. In wired world, optical communication is playing a major role. Hence, RF/Photonics is prevalent in both wireless as well as wired world. The goal of this short term course is to teach RF and photonics. This short term course identifies pedagogy for teaching these concepts and conducting laboratory exercises, thereby providing a holistic view of the frontier areas of RF and Photonics.

Detailed information on RF and Photonics along with some of the salient scopes including the present and futuristic R&D to young and established teachers/researchers/engineers will be provided. It also includes hands-on laboratory exposure to some of the special experimental techniques in the RF and Photonics for better understanding of concepts and applications.

Eligibility

The course is open to the faculty members/researchers of AICTE approved engineering colleges, practicing engineers from industries and government organizations/departments. No course fee would be charged for participants sponsored by AICTE approved institutions. Participants (teachers or non-teachers) from other government and private organizations are eligible provided they meet their TA and DA and pay a course fee maximum of Rs 2,500/- for government organizations and Rs. 5,000/- for private organizations.. The payment is to be made by demand draft drawn on any Nationalized Bank in favor of QIP, IIT Guwahati, payable at Guwahati.

About IIT Guwahati

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994 and academic programs commenced in 1995. At present the Institute has eleven departments covering the major engineering and science disciplines. With one of the most beautiful campuses in the continent, the infrastructure for teaching and carrying out advanced research is world class, being equipped with state-of-the-art engineering and scientific instruments. The IIT Guwahati campus stands on a sprawling 285 hectares of land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra.

The campus is about 25 km from the heart of the city. With the majestic Brahmaputra on one side, and hills and vast open spaces on the other side, the campus provides an ideal setting for learning. The city of Guwahati is the gateway to North East India and connected with many major cities in the country by rail and air. Buses (from Pan Bazar overbridge), auto-rickshaws and taxi are available from Guwahati City to the IIT Guwahati Campus.
