ABSTRACT: In this talk, we shall begin with basic definitions in Universal Algebra -that of algebra, congruence, homomorphism and quotient algebras and see their relation with other structures like Groups, Rings etc. We shall touch on why we quotient structures like modules by submodules but groups by
normal subgroups (not subgroups) and rings by ideals (not subrings). We shall show the Homomorphism and Isomorphism Theorems in terms of arbitrary algebras.
