About KIT

KIT (Knowledge Incubation Cell for TEQIP) at IIT Guwahati functions as a multi- disciplinary / interdisciplinary Innovation Incubation Centre. Its activities are in the area of improving Quality of Technical Education, incubation of Innovative Ideas; implementation of contemporary Pedagogy Practices and development of Learning Content in Technical Institutions.

TEQIP conceived in pursuance of the NPE-1986 (revised in 1992) by Govt. of India as a long-term program to be implemented in different phases. After successful execution of TEQIP II, TEQIP III starts from 2017-18 as Central Sector Scheme with a focus on the Low- Income States, Northeast, Hill States and Islands. The third phase of TEQIP is also special in a way that it incorporates twinning arrangements between mentee & mentor institutions with an emphasis on Focused Training (PT) and Focused Interventions from IITs in terms of deliverables and accountability. KIT established at IIT Guwahati under 2nd phase of TEQIP is a focal point for training Faculty, Staff and students from TEQIP-III institutions in Knowledge Engineering, Content Creation, Improving Teaching, Pedagogy and administrative skills in identified niche areas/disciplines

About IIT Guwahati

IIT Guwahati campus is spread over a sprawling 785 hectares plot of green land on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra around 25 km from the heart of the city. With hills and vast open spaces, the campus provides an ideal setting for training. Details on how to reach IITG Campus are available on the institute website http://www.iitg.ac.in

About the course

Road infrastructure is an essential component which contributes to nation growth and development. The predominant choice of pavement structure in India and elsewhere in the world is bituminous pavement. The performance of bituminous pavements is largely a function of design, construction quality and maintenance program. The main challenge in the northeast for paving activity is heavy rainfall, high humidity, cold climatic conditions and most importantly non-availability of good-quality paving materials. Hence in order to improve sustainability, maximizing the durability of created road assets is important. Concepts of durability aid to minimize operation and maintenance cost with the best use of available materials. In this aspect, this short term course titled “Durable Bituminous Pavements-Theory and Practice” is designed to give overall understanding on the integrated approach with advanced tools for ensuring durability of bituminous pavements. The durability of pavement structure is influenced by variability in material properties, design parameters, construction quality and maintenance activity. Adding to these parameters is high rainfall, heavy traffic loading, non-availability of materials, climatic variations and inappropriate planning and construction practices. The main concept of this course is to introduce the theory and best practices to ensure durability of bituminous pavements. The important themes include; mix and structural design, construction and advanced tools for quality monitoring and maintenance. The following expert lectures will be delivered in this short term course:

The target audience of this event is the researchers and students of the TEQIP mapped institutes as well as non TEQIP institutes. The interaction of the guest researchers with the researchers of IIT Guwahati can help to exchange the ideas and may lead to perform more impactful research by widening the working group and disciplines.

The short term course is open to Faculty members, Researchers and Students from TEQIP mapped Institutions/Engineering Colleges/ ATUs. No course fee is charged. TA & DA for the eligible participants will be reimbursed from their respective institutions.

Faculty members/Research Scholars from non-TEQIP Institutions/Industry may also apply. Positions would be allotted to them after allocation of applicants from TEQIP mapped institutions.
