December 2017 Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India Travel How to reach IIT Guwahati Indian
Institute of Technology Guwahati is located just on the outskirts of the city
of Guwahati. While the main city lies in the southern banks of the mighty
Brahmaputra, IIT Guwahati lies on its northern bank. Uber
and Ola services are abound in Guwahati. To
reach the institute from the city, there is an Institute bus service that runs regularly to and from the city.
The bus timings are available here: http://www.iitg.ac.in/aa/pages/campusmap/files/bus-timings-2010.pdf. There
are two Railway Stations in
Guwahati, the Guwahati Railway Station and Kamakhya
Railway Station. For commuting from both the stations to the North Guwahati
campus, one can avail of Ola and Uber services. Shared trekkers are
available, that will drop you at the southern gates of the campus, viz. the
Faculty Gate or Lothia Baghicha
gate. From there it may be quite a walk to the hostels. The Institute bus
starts from a point near the Guwahati Railway Station (please see attached
map for more details). Getting
to the campus from the airport
(which may take around 40 minutes) will cost around Rs.
450 in a pre-paid taxi available in the airport. The pre-paid counter is
located inside the arrival section of the Guwahati airport, just near baggage
reclaim. Ola and Uber taxis are also available from the airport at all times,
which usually costs less than the pre-paid taxis. Please ensure that you get
off at the hostel you will be residing, as many a times the pre-paid taxis
try to drop you off at the main gates of the Institute. It is almost a couple
of kilometres from the gates to the hostels, and no regular transportation is
available inside the campus. From
the ISBT (inter-state Bus
terminus), you can share a trekker that will drop you at the southern gates
of the campus. Again Ola and Uber taxis are available at ISBT. Auto-rickshaws
are also available for transport within the city but are without meters and
fares have to be negotiated. An interactive campus map can be found
here: http://www.iitg.ac.in/aa/pages/campusmap/index.php?hq |
