The Institute Assistantships/ External Fellowships (such as CSIR/ UGC/ DST, etc.) are available only to Indian Nationals who are admitted under Regular & Full Time Category into PhD programmes.
Requirement of GATE/ CEED/ NET/ INSPIRE, etc.:
All Regular and Full Time Category Candidates must satisfy one of the following requirements (unless they are exempted) in addition to satisfying Eligibility Requirements related to Qualifying Degree.
- If the qualifying degree is BE/ BTech/ BDes or equivalent, then candidates must have valid and qualifying GATE score (valid and qualifying CEED score for PhD in Design) above the prescribed cut-off level.
- If the qualifying degree is M.Sc. or equivalent, then candidates must have valid and qualifying GATE score above the prescribed cut-off level or valid CSIR-NET-JRF qualification.
- If the qualifying degree is M.A. in Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines or equivalent, then candidates must have valid UGC-NET-JRF or UGC-NET-LS qualification.
- Or else qualified in any other National Level Examination for Research Fellowship for pursuing PhD and it should be valid for another 3 to 6 months from the Date of admission to PhD programme.
Exemption from Requirement of CEED/ NET/ INSPIRE, etc.:
A Regular and Full Time Category Candidate satisfying one of the following requirements is exempted from the requirement of valid CEED/ NET/ INSPIRE, etc.:
- Having qualifying degree as M.E./ M.Tech./ M.Des. degree or equivalent.
- Having qualifying degree as Masters' (M.A./M.Sc.) degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with minimum CPI of 8.0 in a 10-point scale.
- Having qualifying degree as Bachelors' (B.Tech./B.Des.) degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) with minimum CPI of 8.0 in a 10-point scale.
Important Rules:
- Financial Assistantship/ Scholarship from the Institute will be given as per terms and conditions of IIT Guwahati and the MHRD, GOI.
- Assistantships/Fellowships from external funding organizations (e.g., CSIR/ UGC/ DST/ INSPIRE, etc) will be available as per terms and conditions of the concerned funding organizations.
- Students receiving assistantships/ scholarships from the Institute or fellowships from any other funding agencies, are required to perform academic/ teaching assistant duties as per prevailing norms of the Institute.
- The continuation of the assistantship/ scholarship/ fellowship is subject to satisfactory performance of the assigned duties and satisfactory academic/ research progress of the student in the PhD Programme.
