Recent decades have seen tremendous growth in the applications of signal processing, which is largely triggered by rapid advances in information technology. Apart from theoretical research, emphasis is given towards challenging problems in modeling and understanding of signals like speech, image & video, sonar, radar and seismic etc. Progress in these areas had significant effect on all walks of human life.

It is in this context last year the Indian National Academy of Engineering organized the WISP-2006 at IIT Madras, Chennai. In continuation of similar effort this year, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) and the C. R. Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science, Hyderabad (AIMSCS) are jointly organizing a workshop on Image and Signal Processing during December 28-29, 2007 at IIT Guwahati. The objective of the workshop is to provide an opportunity for students, faculty, scientists and engineers to interact with leading researchers in image and signal processing areas.

The workshop includes invited talks form several experts in these and related areas from India and abroad, and also poster presentations of contributed papers. The researchers in academic, government and industrial organizations are hereby solicited to participate in the workshop and contribute original papers on the following topics, but not limited to: statistical signal processing, speech and audio processing, signal processing algorithms and implementations, image and video processing, signal processing for communications, computer vision and multimedia applications, biomedical image and signal processing, multivariate systems, radar signal processing and wavelets and applications.
