About Us

Athletics Club is the apex body for controlling, running and managing athletics in IIT Guwahati, which works under the jurisdiction of Sports Board, IIT Guwahati. We define Athletics as a sport that goes “The Extra Mile” in addition to what people perceive it as a collection of “Run, Jump, Throw” events. Athletics also carries the mantle of being the Inter IIT Sports Meet’s leading sport.

AIM

We aim at addiction. Yes, you read that right, “Addiction”. We believe that “Not all addictions are harmful”. For us, addiction leads to perfection. We try and love to addict ourselves to attain fitness which in turn helps us in achieving victory.

We firmly believe that the sport offers broader values that help us deal with life’s challenges. We strive to achieve three major core values by being a part of this unique club. They are leadership, excellence and the most important component being unity. We work towards uniting the “Athletics Family” in a spirit of excellence and integrity.

We, the members of the club, strongly affirm that everyone has the raw material in them for being one of the Institute’s finest athletes of all time. So, come join us and we are happy to help you in bringing the best out of you.

ACTIVITIES

Our activities include daily practice sessions with a break for a day once a week. Every week, we have one gym session in which all the athletes undergo weight training which is very helpful in enhancing the performance of them. We go for cross country run twice a week, which most people in the Institute run once or twice in 4 years.

Apart from the practicing sessions and workouts, we have regular social gatherings amongst us to celebrate and enjoy every possible festival. Each and every team member’s birthday is celebrated with ultimate bliss which in turn strengthens the relationship amongst us. Together, we march forward as one family, the “Athletic Family”.

EVENTS

1. Fresher’s Week Following the week after registration and many more orientations for the freshmen, Sports Board starts its hunt for those who can possibly represent our Institute at the Inter IIT Sports Meet which is scheduled later in the month of December. This is a platform where new sporting enthusiasts participate in various events across the whole week to give us an optimistic view of IIT Guwahati’s sporting future. Students selected through these competitions are eligible to join the Inter IIT practice sessions.

2. Cross Country race (15th August 2015) We organize a mini Marathon in our Institute on the day of our Independence. Spanning across a distance of more than 6 km for the Men’s category, the cross country race has more than 150 participants who put strenuous effort during the Independence Day’s sunshine to win many exciting prizes. The race also has categories for women, kids and faculty.

3. Spirit (1st to 4th October 2015) Spirit is the annual Sports festival of IIT Guwahati. Teams and colleges from the North East as well as from the rest of the country come here to compete against us during a span of 5 days in a healthy competition to bag the Championship. This serves as a platform for the Inter IIT team selection, although many clubs go with their full team to this meet.
