Chiral Recognition

This binuclear Ni(II) complex chooses one enantiomer of a
aminoalcohol out of a pair of mirror image isomers in solution.
Comminication in Chem Eur J. 2010, 16, 5004. Sahoo did it first
now Chandani structurally characterized several such example.
Sahoo received a prize for poster in MTIC conference in 2009.

Aniline based new reaction

A simple Schiff base transforms in to this fluorescent Pyrido-
[1,2-a]quinoxalin-11-ium Derivative upon addition of Cu(II) salt.
It fluoresces even with a blue LED light. Rik made it
first time and now Faizi made many more variety in his
soon to be submitted thesis. Inorg. Chem. 2008, 47, 9122.

Chiral Assembly

Three mononuclear Ni(II) complex encapsulated a K+ and
generated three chiral cavity on the surface. Similar assembly
formation were observed with Cu(II) as well as Na+ in
the centre. Inorg. Chem. 2009, 48, 9294. More example in
Dubey’s thesis and Rajesh got one more.

Aniline based polymer

Took one old synthesis procedure which usually produces
sticky gum, modified the condition with alcohols and now
we can haveMicron sized polymer sphere using t-BuOH
template. Different alcohols generates different morphology.
It is that simple. They are useful too. Journal of Applied
polymer Science, 2008, 1158.

Chiral Cavity

How do we make cavities? First we explored coordination
chemistry of simple ferrocene derivatives, understood
their behavior and capability to form architecture and then
choose the right ingredient to make this cavity in
ferrocenylmethyl tyrosine Cu(II) complex. It is that simple.
Sahoo received a poster prize on this at MTIC conference
in 2007. Dalton Trans. 2009, 3230. More to come.

Filling up channel

There are plenty of channels reported in the literature.
How many are chiral, emptied thermally and refilled
with a different molecule? Add to that structural
characterization at each step. Did you find any? This was
one of our best work. Alam did this alone. Inorg. Chem.
2005, 44, 1302.

Chiral Capsule

Eight ligand and eight Cu(II) self assembled into this large
octameric complex which trapped four pyridine from solution
inside the capsule. This was our first publication. Angew.
Chem. Int. Ed. 2003, 42, 1940 Alam made it. Rik made two
more but they are so large that solving crystal was painful.
We have simpler yet more effective chiral cavity now.
