The subject TRIBOLOGY deals with the technology of lubrication, friction control and wear prevention of surfaces having relative motion under load. The laboratory facilitates study on wear of materials and performance of lubricants under Various Test Conditions.

Experiments performed on various Industrial materials in dry or lubricating conditions with increase of lubricating oil temperature for measuring frictional wear, coefficient of friction etc. under various load conditions. Subsequently data are transferred through Data Acquisition System sensed by inbuilt sensors

Following are the machines/equipments in this Laboratory:

  1. Multipurpose Friction and Wear Tester (TR-25)
  2. Lubricity Test Machine (TR-35)
  3. Rolling Fatigue Testing Machine (TR-27)
  4. Air Bearing Rig
  5. Friction and wear performance tester (TR-201)
  6. Bearing Friction Measurement aparatus (TM-232)



Mutipurpose Friction and Wear Tester(TR-25)

Description: The purpose of Multipurpose Friction and Wear TR-25 is friction and wear evaluation of materials like metals, ceramics, coatings, plastics, polymers and composites.
This is versatile tester offering tests in:

  • Combined rolling /sliding tests in two roller configuration.
  • Block-on-Ring configuration

The machine is suitable for dry and lubricated tests.

Lubricity Test Machine(TR-35)

Description: The Lubricity Test Machine TR-35 is a multi-function unit with adapters for Ball-on-cylinders, Cylinder-on-cylinder and Crossed Cylinder configuration used for evaluation of antiwear properties of lubricants and greases. Wear performance of disc material can also be undertaken. This is a versatile tester offering tests in:

  • Combined rolling /sliding tests in two roller configuration.
  • Block-on-Ring configuration

Rolling Fatigue Testing Machine (TR-27)

Description: Rolling Fatigue Testing Machine is used to assess rolling type abrasion resisting life test for various types of industrial materials used in bearings, gears, sintered metallic products, ceramics, surface treatment product, lubrication, oil etc under high loads. Hertzian contact stress is sufficiently large to cause fatigue failure in the rollers with reasonably small number of cycles. The machine is versatile tester offering sliding test in combined rolling/sliding tests in two roller configuration.

Description: It is used to investigate bearing friction on a rotating steel shaft. Various friction pairs can be examined and compared by inserting different slides and rolling bearings.
