Experiments Performed:

This lab has basic fluid mechanics set-up. The lab is equipped with different flow measuring set-ups such as venturimeter, orifice-plate, pitot tube, rotometer etc., where students can visualize the basic theory of working of the flow meter.

The lab also has Reynolds’s setup, free-forced vortices setup, flow over open channel and impact of jet set-up, where students can fortify their theoretical knowledge.

The lab also has some advanced research set-up such as constant temperature hot-wire anemometer, pulsating flow meter, where some advanced research work can be performed.

Venturimeter

Description: To determine pressure distribution along a venturimeter and to calculate coefficient of discharge.

Forced Vortex Apparatus

Description: To determine the surface profile of a Forced vortex.

Free Vortex Apparatus

Description: To form free vortex and to show that total energy is constant throughout vortex by measuring the surface profile co-ordinates.

Losses in piping System

Description: To determine the head loss due to different fittings in a piping system.

Friction loss along a pipe

Description: To determine the co-efficient of friction, head loss due to friction and critical Reynold number for a flow through a small tube.

Pulsating Flow Setup

Description: It is used for the study of different pulsating air flow characteristics.

Impact Jet (H8 Setup)

Description: ITo measure the impact force of a jet on a series of different shape of plates.

Flow Measuring Apparatus, (H10 Setup)

Description: To measure the discharge of an essentially incompressible fluid using a venturimeter, an orifice plate meter and a rotometer whilst at the same time giving applications of the steady flow energy equation (Bernoulli's Equation). Determination of Head losses associated with each meter and compared as well as those arising in a rapid enlargement and a 90 degree elbow.

Flow through an Orifice (H4 Setup)

Description: To determine coefficient of discharge (Cd), Coefficient of velocity(Cu), Coefficient of contraction(Cc).

Water Flow Channel (H17 Setup)

Description: The channel has a working section of 50x130x1500mm , to provide experiments on Vertical sluice gate, Sharp Crested Weirs, Crump Weir, Spill Ways, Broad Crested Weir, Streamlined Hump, Venturi Flume, Parshall Flume.
