There are many places of tourist interest in and around Guwahati. Some of the tourist attractions in the city are the famous Kamakhya Temple, Umananda, Bashistha Ashram, Balaji Temple, Shankardev Kalakshetra and Second World War Cemetery.

Shillong, Cherapunzi (rainiest place on the Earth) , Kajiranga National Park (famous for one-horn rhinoceros) , Pobitora Wild Life Sanctuary, Manas National Park, Hajo, Madan-Kamdev and many more famous tourist spots are only a few hours drive from Guwahati. Other tourist attractions of the region are Bhalukpung, Halflong, Jatinga, Nameri National Park, Amreng, Majuli (world’s biggest river island), Tawang, Loktak Lake, Sikkim, Darjeeling.

Kamakhya TempleThe greatest shrine of tantric shaktism finds mention in the inscription of Allahabad pillar of Samudragupta. Devotees from all over India Converge on this holy place during Ambubachi and Manasha Puja.
