IITG-IJIRA Initiative for Jute diversification
Sponsored project and Consultancy:
NER produces significant amount of Jute yarn. However due to introduction of synthetic gunny bags for packing, jute industry is suffering loss and to boost this sector, diversification is essential. Finer variety of jute yarn can be woven to produce variety of fabrics using handloom. However suitable semi-automatic loom is essential to be economically viable for operation.
In this project, a semi-automatic handloom designed earlier was to be modified for jute yarn weaving and product development. Project is successful and a number of product too were developed. Loom is ready for commercialisation.
