Text Analysis

The power of social media has been demonstrated in many of the social outbreak. In text analysis we performed the following analysis:

  1. Sentiment analysis: Sentiment analysis (also known as opinion mining or emotion AI) refers to the use of natural language processing, text analysis, computational linguistics,to systematically identify, extract, quantify, and study affective states and subjective information.
  2. Security text analysis: Development of automatic security classifier to measure threat related polarity weight of new social content toward target entities.
  3. Sensitive analysis: Development of automatic sensitive issue classifier to identify the trrigers and the driver of emerging security threat.

Event Analysis

An event study is an empirical analysis performed on a security that examines the impact of a significant catalyst occurrence or contingent event on the value of that security. Event studies can reveal important information about how a security is likely to react to a given event.

Network Analysis

One of the characteristics of social media data is its nature to be highly relational. The elements in social media often tend to have relational links with the other elements in the domain. The social media data can be best represented in the form of networks where the nodes represent the entities and the link represent the relationships among them.

Harnessing the information by analyzing the social network can help get much insight of the considered social media.
Thus the objectives of the Network analysis module in the project include, but not limited to are mentioned as follows:
  1. Centrality: Finding the pivotal element in the network or the centrality of the network. Where the pivotal element is a node that plays a key role in maintaining the network. An application of this measure can be; finding the key persons involved in a terrorist network.
  2. Community Detection: Finding the potential communities of nodes in the network by applying various Social Network Analysis(SNA) methods based upon the relational information of the network. Community detection can play a major role in finding out the group of persons talking about a topic of interest or involved in similar activities.
  3. Network Evolution: Network Evolution is measured with respect to a node where it is concerned with how the network of a given node evolves. One application of the technique can be analyzing the rise and fall in the popularity of a personality in social media.
  4. Link Prediction: Predicting the possible future connections among the nodes in the network is the objective of link prediction. Applying link prediction methods on the available network can let one have prior knowledge about the future connection of two given nodes.

Tools We Use

Apache Spark

Apache Spark is an open-source distributed general-purpose cluster-computing framework. Spark provides an interface for programming entire clusters with implicit data parallelism and fault tolerance.

Apache Cassandra

Apache Cassandra is a free and open-source, distributed, wide column store, NoSQL database management system designed to handle large amounts of data across many commodity servers, providing high availability with no single point of failure

Laravel

Laravel is a free, open-source PHP web framework, created by Taylor Otwell and intended for the development of web applications following the model–view–controller architectural pattern and based on Symfony.
