Working Principle: ESR works on the principle of magnetic resonance. Sample (molecule or ion) with unpaired electron(s) absorbs microwave frequency (a kind of electromagnetic radiation) under the influence of magnetic field. This phenomenon is known as Electron Spin Resonance.

Applications: Determination of paramagnetic species, free radicals (organic/inorganic), molecules e.g. O2, NO, NO2, transition metal complexes viz. copper(II) acetate monohydrate etc.
