2012

Mr. Sudipta Ghosh, doctoral student under joint supervision of Dr.Latha Rangan and Dr. Utpal Bora, participated in the Training Course on "Extraction and modification of bioactive components and specialty chemicals from plants"  held from 23 to 27 April 2012, at Anadolu University,in Eskisehir-Turkey, Organized by ICS-UNIDO. He received full travel support and assistance from ICS-UNIDO to participate in this training program.

Dr. Latha Rangan received Young Scientist Award of "Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists (ISCB)" in the area of Biological Sciences for the year 2012.

Mr. Pojul Loying, Ph.D. Student under supervision of Dr. Biplab Bose, participated in the European Molecular Biology Organization Practical Course on "Single Cell Gene Expression Analysis" at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Heidelberg, Germany from 19th to 23rd March 2012 among 16 other international participants. He received the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds travel grant from Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds, Foundation for Basic Research in Medicine, Germany for participating in the course.

Dr. Vikash Kumar Dubey received "Young Scientist Award" by Society of Applied Biotechnology for year 2011.

Dr. Latha Rangan received "Prof Hira Lal Chakravarty Memorial Award" in area of Plant Sciences
instituted by Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) in the 99th session of ISC 2011-2012.

 

2011

Mr. Prakash Saudagar, Ph.D. Student under supervision of Dr. Vikash Kumar Dubey has been awarded the best poster prize for his work on "Trypanothione synthetase from Leishmania donovani: Cloning, expression, characterization and inhibition studies" during 80th Annual Meeting of Society of Biological Chemist (India) held at Lucknow during November 12-15, 2011.

Mr. Anil Kumar Shukla, Ph.D student under Dr. V.K. Dubey has been awarded travel award by Department of Science and Technology for attending European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) meeting 2011 held at Vienna.

The work carried out by Dr. U. Bora, Dr. P. Goswami, Mr. A. Sahu, and Mr. N. Kasoju on the "Encapsulation of Curcumin in Pluronic Block Copolymer Micelles for Drug Delivery Applications" has been listed in "The 50 most-frequently read articles" Journal of Biomaterials Applications (March 2010 through Oct 2011). Dr. Vigya Kesari, a former Ph.D. student at the Department of Biotechnology, IIT Guwahati who carried out her Ph.D. research under the supervision of Dr. Latha Rangan during 2006-2010 and presently a Post Doctoral Fellow in Department of Biology, University of Western Ontario, Canada has been selected for Young Scientist Award instituted by Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) for the year 2011-2012 in the area of Agriculture and Forest Science; for her doctoral work on Pongamia. The award will be conferred to Dr. Kesari during 99th Indian Science Congress to be held at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, from January 3 & 7, 2012.

Dr. Rakhi Chaturvedi has been awarded with "Prof. Y.S. Murty Medal 2011" by the executive council of Indian Botanical Society (IBS) in the area of "Morphogenesis, Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology" held during 34th All India Botanical Conference at Lucknow in October 10-12, 2011.

Mr. Arghya Sett, Ph.D. Student under Dr. U. Bora has been awarded the First Prize in poster presentation for presenting the work entitled ("Role of PCL in nanoparticle based drug delivery" by Ratul K.Das, Arghya Sett, Naresh Kasoju, Sumithra B.,Utpal Bora) in the National Conference on Tissue Engineering held at NIT, Rourkela.

Mr. Tushar, doctoral student working under the supervision of Dr. Latha Rangan has been selected for the prestigious Fulbright Nehru Doctoral and Professional Research (FN-DPR) Fellowship by United Sates - Indian Educational Foundation (USIEF) as Fulbright Scholar for the year 2011-2012.

The work carried out by Dr. U. Bora, Mr. R.K. Das, and Mr. N. Kasoju on the "Encapsulation of curcumin in alginate-chitosan-pluronic composite nanoparticles for delivery to cancer cells" has been listed in "Top 25 Hottest Articles"by Science Direct. (Pharmacology, Toxicology and Pharmaceutical Science > Nanomedicine: Nanotechnology, Biology and Medicine > January to March 2010). Link

The work carried out by Dr. U. Bora and Mr. N. Kasoju on the "Fabrication of a novel micro-nano fibrous nonwoven scaffold with Antheraea assama silk fibroin for use in tissue engineering" has been published as "Silk scaffolds for artificial organs"by Biomat.net - a worldwide network of biomaterials and tissue engineering community (Jan 2010). Ms. Urmila Saxena, PhD student under Prof. Pranab Goswami has got first prize for best poster in the category for the paper "Gold nanoparticle based cholesterol biosensor" in the International Conference On Frontier in Biological Sciences (InCOFIBS 2010) held at National Institute of Technology, Rourkela, 1-3 OCT P 139 (2010).

Dr. Vikash Kumar Dubey has been selected for Young Scientist Award of "Indian Society of Chemists and Biologists (ISCB)" in the area of Biological Sciences for the year 2011.

Dr. Vikash Kumar Dubey has been selected for YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) for 2009-2010.

Mr. R Sarath, M.Tech. student under the supervision of Dr. Latha Rangan has been awarded Best Poster Presentation Award for Energy and Environmental Science at 2nd Indian Youth Science Congress held at SRM University, Chennai, 2010.

Dr. Vikash Kumar Dubey has been selected for YOUNG SCIENTIST AWARD of the Biotech Research Society of India for the year 2009.

Mr. Naresh Kasoju, PhD student under Dr. U. Bora has been selected by DST for participation in the International Youth Innovation Forum "INTERRA-2010" to be held at Novosibirsk (Russia).

Dr. K. Pakshirajan has been selected for the INSA medal for Young Scientist 2010 for his work on "For achieving excellent synergy between chemical engineering and environmental biotechnology to accomplish remediation of heavy meals and azo dyes using the basidiomycete Phanerochaete chrysosporium."

Dr. Latha Rangan has been selected for the Award of Biotechnology Overseas Associateship 2009-2010 exclusively for northeast in areas of "Agriculture, food and feed biotechnology".

Ms. Gauri Deb, PhD student under Dr. A.M. Limaye has been awarded the prestigious SPM (Shyama Prasad Mukherji) fellowship 2010 in Life sciences by CSIR in July 2010

Ms. Priyanka Dhar, Ph.D student under Dr. G.K. Saini has been recommended by Department of Science and Technology to avail the international travel support scheme for attending an international conference, "9th International Mycological Congress" held at Edinburgh, UK from 1st-6th August

Mr. Naresh Kosoju has won the "Bajpai-Saha Award" for the best paper presented (oral) "Antheraea assama silk fibroin: the golden biomaterial for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications" by a student during the annual conference of Society for Biomaterials and Artificial Organs India (SBAOI) & Society for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine India (STERMI) held during Feb 28 - Mar 1 2010 at Cochin.

Mr. Anup Kumar Singh (MTech Student, 2009 Batch) has won First Prize in the Biotech Brain Storming Contest 2010 for his abstract entitled "PCR Based Screening for Detection of Gene Fusion in Breast Cancer".

Dr. V.K. Dubey bags the "Innovative Young Biotechnologist Award" for 2009 by DBT, Government of India (March 2010)

The work carried out by Dr. V.K. Dubey group on "Leishmaniasis" has been published by Nature India as a research highlight. Link

The work carried out by Dr. U. Bora and Mr. N. Ms. Vigya Kesari, PhD student under Dr. Latha Rangan was awarded the Best Paper award in the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) South East Asia Regional Young Scientist Conference "Food, Health and Fuel: Plants for the Future" 2-5th November, 2009, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a paper entitled "Pongamia pinnata-Sustainable Source of Feedstock for Biofuel". 

Ms. Vigya Kesari, PhD Research Scholar working under Dr Rangan was also recipient of DST Overseas Travel Grant Fellowship to attend the TWAS Conference.

Ms. Nandini Sarkar, PhD student under Dr. V.K. Dubey received "Young Scientist Program Award" : 21st  International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) and 12th Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB) International Congress of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology held during 2-7 August 2009 in Shanghai, China.

Ms. Nandini Sarkar, PhD student under Dr. V.K. Dubey awarded International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) full travel fellowship to attend 21st IUBMB and 12th Federation of Asian and Oceanian Biochemists and Molecular Biologists (FAOBMB) International Congress of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology held during 2-7 August 2009 in Shanghai, China.

bags "Rashtriya Gaurav Award" and "Certificate of Excellence" for outstanding achievements conferred upon by India International Friendship Society in May 2009.

Dr. K. Pakshirajan awarded as the Top Reviewer of Bioresource Technology (a reputed International Journal with an impact factor 3.1) for the year 2008, by Elsevier in April 2009.
