The Indian Institutes of Technology and the <st1:place w:st=3D"on"><st1:PlaceType w:st=3D"on">University</st1:Place= Type> of <st1:PlaceName w:st=3D"on">Erlangen Nuremberg<= /st1:PlaceName></st1:place> have started an academic conclave for bringing together a group of talented undergraduates from their respective institutions in a collaborative learni= ng environment. This initiative is known as "<st1:place w:st=3D"on"><st1:= PlaceName w:st=3D"on">Winter</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st=3D"on">Academy</st1= :PlaceType></st1:place>" and the purpose of the Academy is to motive the bright students of different Institutes in their research pursuit. The following are the activities of t= he Academy. The selected students are assigned a seminar topic (in the month of August/ September) and provided with guidance through a group of research mentors. During the Academy (in the month of December), the students and the professors assemble in a place for about seven days and hold the seminar ta= lks. Each student gives lecture on his/ her own topic that was assigned to him/ = her some three months back. Other students and the Professors interact with the speaker in an intense manner and address all the relevant issues starting f= rom the basic theoretical aspects to the final application. The seminars are conducted amidst a free ambiance where ‘not knowing’ is not a discredit. The interactions educate= and excite the dormant capacity of each individual. Even the participating facu= lty members benefit from the questions raised by an uninitiated student!
